Northampton cycling club |
Mission statement The Northampton Cycling Club is a volunteer-run organization promoting fun, fitness, and community through cycling to athletes of all ages and abilities in western Massachusetts. |
The NCC was founded in 1999 by John Frey, JD Bilodeau, and Adam Myerson as an “elite development” program for local bike racers. During the period of 1999-2005, the NCC’s support was instrumental in launching the careers of many well known professional cyclists, such as multi-time U.S. Cyclocross National Champion Jeremy Powers, and Masters Mountain Bike National Champion and renowned coach Al Donahue.
In 2006, a new board of directors recast the NCC’s mission to support expansion of the entire cycling community as opposed to just elite development. Under the new board, the NCC offered beginner rides, bike safety programs, junior cycling grants, race participation rewards and a triathlon team as well as the introduction of the NCC’s flagship community event, BikeFest, which is a community celebration of cycling for cyclists of all levels.
