We had a sweet night for a hillclimb, warm and a light breeze but dry! Also, I included a status report on Andy MacDonald.

As some of you know, we had a major incident in the long time trial this evening. At the turn onto Elm Street for the final 2 miles, Andy MacDonald went down hard and did some major damage to himself. Other than this, we had 12 other riders complete the race.
Two small changes in the standings after it was discovered that one person’s time was for the wrong hillclimb. A big night for Zinj – winning the hillclimb, getting a PR AND finding himself in the Overall Series lead. Ben is on the top of the hillclimb standings and things are getting close as we enter the last 5 weeks of the series.
I was all set to say that there weren’t any PRs tonight given the significant headwind out of the south south-east but not everybody did the time trial at 6 pm tonight. Andy did it before I even had my coffee this morning and shaved 14 seconds off his best time.
So perhaps the secret to a good hillclimb is to squeeze out of work a few minutes early, ride like a possessed demon to the start line, grab a quick drink from your sister’s water bottle and then go like an even more possessed demon to the top. Yes, that’s what Gus did tonight. Impressive!
Today’s Deerfield Time Trial is cancelled. There is a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for all of Western Mass.
A hill climb, in person, on a hot, sticky, hazy and murky night! There were attacks, there were counter attacks, there were drops, there were counter drops, there were counter attack drops! Man, it was just like the old days! Our first mass start hill climb after a handful of cancellations due to rain and/or 100+ heat indices.
I kind of forget how to post these results since it’s been so long. Of course we had rainy conditions but seemed to be missing massive thunderstorms, so that was nice. Lots of challenges out there today in Hatfield, with lots of road work and sections that were missing asphalt.
