Another awesome turnout at the start (for such a chilly day)- I counted 18 or so, and a couple of new faces. On Bay Rd a bit of the pent up winter/spring energy gapped the paceline a bit, but not for too long.

While some may say it is too cold in the morning to do these rides, I say suck it up and enjoy. The roads are still (relatively) clean and salt free, so why not take advantage?

Well, so much for optimism. At least there was no rain (or snow) today! The temperature started at about 38F in Northampton, and never really moved above 40F the whole day. And about that full, warming sun? Not much of it.

First I have to apologize for not making it clear that today’s ride was really an extended Super Saturday to preview Greylock. I should have put in bold text that the mileage would be 120+, much more than listed at 70-90.

Fall is already showing signs, as when I left home it was 50F and I had to put the arm warmers on. But, the day turned out beautiful- sunshine and in the lower 70’s.

Route goals were as posted above — flat roads out and back to get us to some new (to me) climbs in northern Franklin County. We rolled out with a dozen or so riders under clear skies, but less than 45 minutes into the ride, the skies started getting darker to the west, and soon we were in sprinkles that became a steady rain as we rolled north through Whately and Deerfield.
