It was a little surreal to see some familiar faces and bikes in real life for the first time in about a year and a half.

Another hillclimb in the books. We saw the return from the frozen hinterlands of Owen Wright who scorched the course, knocking a full minute off his PR. Are you sure you know where the start and finish line is Owen?? Nick took 31 seconds off his PR and Melissa shaved a full 1:39. Nice job folks!
So many challenges with today’s second short TT of the 2021 season. First, there were all the locusts in the road to avoid. Then there was the hail followed by the massive fissure that opened up in the road near Depot Road in Hatfield. Finally, there was the free ice cream cone give-away at the 5J Creamery. So distracting!
All I was hearing about today from folks was about the wind. Oh, and how slow they were. Oh, and how awful the wind was. Yes, the wind was tough again for the 5th out of the last 6 weeks. Why didn’t anyone complain about the wind on the Short Time Trial when it gave everyone an extra 50 watts?
Today seemed to be a day when a certain time-of-day strategy might have gained or lost you a few seconds. I rode around 2 pm and had a pretty decent northerly breeze to contend with. Later in the day, it seemed that it became calmer. Maybe not?
There were some really tight races today. One second separated a lot of places. I’m sure if we had been racing all together, it would have shaken out a bit differently but, this is what we got so far!
Yes, the wind was a cruel mistress/master today. You would think that we would have had an awesome tailwind for half of the TT today but that wasn’t my experience. This update includes a few changes that I needed to make.
As some folks told me (as if I needed a reminder), that is one seriously hard hill climb! Frank even suggested that someone added another ramp since the last time. Might be true!
