The 23’rd Annual Tour of the Hilltowns took place this past Saturday, June 25.  This road race solely put on by NCC volunteers has been a New England staple for the last 23 years, well known for the challenging E. Hawley Rd climb and beautiful scenery

The B ride followed the Tour of the Hilltowns race course (which is next week, 6/25!). The course is looking clean and safe. We returned home off-course and encountered a fun feature to navigate! Hope to see you ALL next Saturday- we need all hands we can get.

The B SMR ride headed up to Cummington today to tackle some 16% climbs. it was a beautiful route, but very challenging. Plenty of fun was had by everyone. BTW, Tour of the Hilltowns Needs YOU:

Hot today? Nope. The weather forecast all week for today was like “danger, danger, heat index 191 degrees,”, blah blah blah.  So, we decided to move ride start times an hour early.  Although a good call, the weather forecast once again was wrong. The B ride went east to Wendell.

Was it the wind?  Was it because the sun was not out?  Too cold?  Or maybe because I forgot to type the meeting time and place in the e-mail announcement?  For a minute I thought I’d be riding my own SMR solo for the first time.

What a great day for our first SMR of the season!  The hills are all still there, and they hurt! But it it was all worth it. We had about 10 riders today on the B ride and good fun was had by all.

Here is a fun SMR from the archives we did back in 2013 taking us up (of course!) to Otis- a location we don’t get to often. Fun! Please note that this is not a typical B SMR- it was part of a special monthly event. Stay tuned for our ride schedule for the season, which covers all speeds, distances and abilities!
