The first super-sized Saturday Morning Ride of the year kicked off on a perfect morning, slightly chilly at the start, but warming up quickly under abundant sunshine.

We started the day at the Academy under vaguely threatening skies with seven riders — myself, Don, Andrew, Mike, Philip, and new club members and first-time SMR riders Alan and Carl.

Route goals were as posted above — flat roads out and back to get us to some new (to me) climbs in northern Franklin County. We rolled out with a dozen or so riders under clear skies, but less than 45 minutes into the ride, the skies started getting darker to the west, and soon we were in sprinkles that became a steady rain as we rolled north through Whately and Deerfield.

A group of seven set out from the Academy under threatening skies that were already starting to spit a little bit of rain. The temperature was around 60°, though, so things weren’t too uncomfortable.

The recent cool weather continued this morning, with a bit of a chill at the start, but things warmed up nicely as the day progressed. We rolled from the Academy with a group of about 17, and headed over to Williamsburg for the first big climb of the day, up Hyde Hill Rd into Chesterfield.

For our fourth Super Saturday Morning Ride of the year, Roberto suggested a couple of climbs, and I pieced together a route to get us there. The day started out looking a little threatening, with a tiny bit of drizzle at the start, which may have scared some folks away.

We haven’t been up in the Patten district for a while, so today I planned a route to take us up through Conway, across the bridge on Bardwells Ferry Rd, and up into the Patten.
