We had 117 riders complete the 9 mile course and despite the warmer than usual weather, we saw two course records drop this past weekend.

The Mount Greylock Bicycle Hill climb is on September 10, 2022.
At 8:45 AM this past Saturday, September 11, we began sending the first of 116 riders up Mount Greylock for the NCC’s 11th episode of this classic uphill time trial. We send riders up in 20 second intervals, and as they lined up and were individually counted down, 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… go!, I realized that the train had left the station and the race was underway. It would take just over an hour for all the riders to depart, and a bit more than 2.5 hours for everyone to reach the summit.
We are back! The 2021 Northampton Cycling Club Mount Greylock Hillclimb Time Trial is set for Saturday, September 11, 2021.
We’re having an informal gathering at Northampton Bicycle (technically, we’ll be at The Barb and Olive – a.k.a. the Bicycle Bar) this Saturday starting at 3:30 PM.
The Thursday A/B (aka “Hilly Ride”) has a bit of a reputation (is that ever a good thing?). First, we have a reputation of really hammering on the way back to Northampton. Second, the Ashfield road climb is not an insignificant bump on the landscape! It takes a solid 30 minutes to ride from Williamsburg to the Ashfield regroup point in South Ashfield. And third, we have a reputation for dropping riders on the way to Williamsburg.
Let me tackle those one by one…
As is typical, the town lines punctuated our return to Northampton. As we approached the first one, I was pretty toasted already and chose to sit back and watch the shenanigans. I saw Ben J. drop back from the front, slotting into about the 6th or 7th spot and thought, “he’s going to take this one”…
On Thursday, June 10th, the Northampton Cycling Club is launching a new weekly gravel ride.
