We tried a new route this week: and it’s a keeper – Southampton/Westfield and back: 40 miles, 1,500 feet of climbing, average ~13.5 mph.

There were just 2 of us this am, Justine, and Kent. We rode south to Southampton via Ryan Road, West Farms and Glendale Road, then on to Westfield on some beautiful newly paved roads. We detoured into downtown Westfield seeking cafe/bakery options, since so many spots are closed on Mondays, and found Circuit Coffee open. There, we found friendly staff, sweets, coffee, and bathrooms! The catch is negotiating downtown Westfield: ‘city riding’- say no more.

Recharged and rested, we headed back north on Montgomery road, Russellville, North, Brickyard, and the dirt Brickyard extension, where Justine tasted a bitter herb some folks were picking- They mentioned it’s supposed to be cooked AFTER I ate it. I’m still alive..

Found our way to the end of the bike path via Pleasant and Coleman and rode back to Northampton on the bike path. Overall a very pleasant, lovely spring day for a mostly pastoral ride.
