There was a mean, vindictive and evil storm cell that was hellbent on making tonight’s hillclimb a toughie. Sure, I could have canceled but it was sunny in Sunderland at 4 pm with a meager 30% chance of rain between 5 and 6. Seemed like a no-brainer to me. The ride over was dry until close to Amherst center when the skies opened and stayed open until, and I’m not kidding, 25 meters past the Shutesbury finish line where the roads were completely dry. Cleaning up my bike later, I poured at least a cup of water out of my rear wheel.

No PRs but a great result by Ryan and a big battle for 3rd, 4th and 5th. There was not a battle for 7th. On the bright side, I got to meet Melissa’s mom, who was just an utter delight. Kind of reminded me of my own mom who still, to this day, doesn’t have the slightest bit of understanding about why I ride my bike so much in my advancing age. I’m starting to wonder too since I seem to be in last place almost all the time these days. Might take a revised mindset to continue doing this kind of tom foolery.
