I was so distraught to have cancelled last week’s Deerfield Time Trial due to a weather forecast that entirely mislead me (it was sunny and there were dry roads at 5 pm) that I was determined not to make the same mistake tonight. Yes, there were thunderstorms in the area and MANY folks opted out. However, even though it was a bit murky, it was dry – from 3:45 pm when I left Sunderland until 6:30 pm when I got back home. The light rain held off until 6:35 so I was really happy!

Ryan averaged 371 watts for the climb tonight (and got a PR by 48 seconds for his effort). By contrast, I averaged 221 watts (and was off my PR by over 2:30) which landed me squarely in last place. As Bob Johnson told me at the Major Taylor Hillclimb race on Sunday when I was 6 seconds slower than my age group winning time a few years ago, “What do you expect, man, you’re getting old!”
