Our string of unsettled weather for the Monday Intro Ride continued today — we had a few storms roll through mid-afternoon, but by 5:30 PM, things had cleared out nicely, and we ended up with quite a nice evening. We had a group of four riders joining Ari and me, including Jacob on his first-ever group ride — he did great!

The last time we did the Northampton loop, about a month ago, Geraldine mentioned that she likes doing Sylvester road in the opposite direction — descending southbound towards Ryan Road. I said that we would give it a try next time, so tonight I kept my word, and we did the loop in reverse. Unfortunately, Geraldine didn’t make it, but the rest of us got to enjoy a fresh perspective on a familiar route. We had a brief diversion after Look Park to climb up to Leeds Elementary for a photo-op at the new mural there, where Adam scared us all with tales of the upcoming “Col de Musante” climb from Musante Beach up to Roberts Brook Reservoir. The climb turned out to be … slightly less epic than Adam had promised, but it did slow us down a bit so we could enjoy the view of the waterfall coming out of the reservoir.

We did greatly enjoy the “Geraldine Descent” down Sylvester Road, with Jeanne charging down the hill at the front of the pack. Adam then took over on the front and led the group up his home turf of the little rollers on Burt’s Pit Road. One final descent brought us back to the bike path, which took us back to the Sheldon Field, arriving just before 7 PM.

Next week we’ll be doing the Hatfield loop (in the usual direction). Come out and join us!
