This past Wednesday was an idyllic race day and the competitors made figurative hay whilst their sun shone. The “B” race boasted a record of nearly 30 riders, which made for an interesting race. The NCC racers stretched the peloton in the early stages to elongate and eventually fracture the peloton early, with a series of bold and spirited attacks. This did accomplish winnowing the field, however it did not break the intended targets. Patrick Ryan, Mitch Graves, and Justin Eichenlaub applied pressure with success, however Matt Zarotney was able to sprint to victory on the final stretch. Patrick and Mitch rounded out the podium, respectively. Chapeau!

The “A” had it’s own drama in the form of an early three person breakaway, consisting of Aiden Mapel, Johnny Suarez and the NCC’s own Ben “throw a wrench into the race machinery” Jankowski. This trio threatened to lap the field prompting a response from racers who were neither teammates of Comp Edge, New Haven Angels or people who knew Ben J. would get enough wins in CX season. The break would eventually relent, leading to a small break from Kevin Ondre of Comp Edge, with little success. The race settled until the final laps when Ben Jankowski picked up the speed which led to a strung out sprint in the end with Suarez as the victor. Ondre and Mathers followed for a close 2nd and 3rd,

Strawberries, cash and Tito’s gift cards were enjoyed by many that night. Be sure to register for the final week on the 28th!
