Today concluded the NCC Zwift Fall Hill Climb/Time Trial series. The winter series will start in January.
As has been our tradition as the finale for each series, we ascended the Alpe du Zwift. The climb is only 7.59 miles; however, it ascends 3,398 feet at an average gradient of 8.5 percent. Alpe du Zwift is a recreation of Alpe d’Huez in France. The recreation includes the mountain’s 21 hairpin turns.
We had a reduced peloton today. Charlie was celebrating his birthday, and indoor Tim and Zinj also missed the fun.
Fresh off the 2022 USA Cycling Cyclocross Nationals, Henry vdB put up the fastest time today. Fellow Conway resident (Conwinnien?), Dusty finished second, while Conway native Melissa took third.
Henry W bested Jonathan by 14 seconds for fourth.
With indoor Tim absent, Steve takes the Central Mass Alpe du Zwift title.
Andy’s trainer lost power midway up the climb and he was unable to continue.
I’m working my way back so I rode an “alternative hill climb” in Zone 2. I did not want to tempt myself into racing up the hill.
So today’s scoring was complicated. With double points on the line this evening, every place was extremely important. With Andy’s half ride, there were 6.5 riders. Everyone’s points got doubled. Since I’m reporting the results and was on Discord, I’m giving myself .25 points, which is doubled to 0.5 points. I was not factored into the results.
As always, Melissa won the women’s title. Zinj and Jonathan ended the series in a tie with 72 points!
