We continued to explore the new roads in the Makuri Islands today. The longest new route, Makuri 40, was today’s challenge. My favorite part of the ride was the cavern connector road, which was very unique scenery for Zwift.

We had seven riders this morning (Brant, James, Melissa, Steve, Tim, Zinj, and me).

As is customary, Zinj was with us on Discord, but not on the ride at the very beginning. His power meter was unresponsive. He also mentioned that he was not concerned about the weight of his bike parts, so something was seriously wrong!

Melissa rolled out of bed and joined the ride. Through sheer will, she is trying to ignore the fact that she has a pretty bad cold.

After joining us for Wednesday’s ride, James joined us for the first time on Discord this morning. Hopefully we did not scare him off for future rides!

I was concerned about the weather. I asked Tim and Steve how the weather in Central Mass was since I was concerned about the second round of the FCS Championship. Fortunately, my Holy Cross Crusaders were able to advance with a 35-19 victory over UNH.

Our conversation covered two very important topics. The first was how much money a cycling YouTuber could possibly make. The second was if Zinj actually needs bear spray to protect himself on mountain bike and gravel rides. For the record, he was not concerned about the weight of the bear spray.

Melissa, Tim, Zinj, and I earned the Markuri 40 route achievement badge, which doubled our XP points for the first lap.

In total, we rode 35 miles with 1,335 feet of climbing in 1 hour and 48 minutes.
