It was another bitterly cold Saturday. The group gathered for our 9 AM start, but Zwift was having issues. It wasn’t just us, but no one appeared to be able to join events.
So we adapted and scheduled a meetup. Then, our previously scheduled NCC event suddenly worked and we were back up and riding. Five of us ended up in the NCC event (Henry, Melissa, Tim D., Zinj, and me), while Tim C. ended up in the meetup. It took us a little while to realize Tim C. was not in the event, but he was able to chat with us on Discord. We all rode the Everything Bagel route in New York City, which is very hilly.
Our Discord conversation covered many topics this morning.
We started off by stating that we need to start using nicknames to distinguish regular NCC Zwift riders. We now have three Henrys and three Tims amongst our regulars.
Our regular electric vehicle discussion continued. There are over 20 electric vehicles coming to market this year. Yet, we are thinking the Zinj will end up with an electric bike with a protective shield.
There were periods during the many hill climbs where the conversations stopped. When we hit the downhills and the flats, the conversations resumed. I shared that I could hear the blender in the kitchen, which meant my daughter was making something “interesting.” Melissa and I exchanged questionable recipies that our children have created.
Zinj’s mechanic issues continued. He dropped his chain today. At some point, he will unpack his bike tools and get everything back to normal.
Henry shared how he got started with trapeze and the circus.
Melissa told us that plastic cereal bags are recyclable similar to plastic shopping bags. This lead to a discussion of glass versus plastic.
We also covered children’s books and memories from our childhood. Fond games from our childhoods are not as enjoyable for our children.
Tim C and Zinj completed the Everything Bagel route achievement, which doubled their XP points for the first lap.
In total, we rode 30 miles with 2,659 feet of climbing. With our break to regroup, it took us 1 hour and 54 minutes to complete the ride.
