This evening, we rode five laps of the new Twilight Harbor route on Makuri Island. The route is 4.3 miles with 108 feet of climbing per lap.
We had five riders (Henry, Melissa, Tim, Zinj, and me). This was Henry’s first NCC Zwift ride.
Normally, we are a well oiled machine on Wednesday nights. Tonight did not follow that model. Melissa, exhausted from skiing, somehow did not join the event in time, but still rode with us. Zinj, who rides Zwift on rollers, got a flat. To Zinj’s credit, he was only out of the ride for a little more than one lap before he was back in business.
On Discord, we correctly guessed that tomorrow’s race will be the longer Tour de Zwift Stage at 6 PM. Tim rode it “casually” on Monday and told us that it will be fast. He warned us about the hill towards the end of each lap. We also talked about last night’s hill climb.
Henry was surprised at the number of thumbs ups/kudos he was receiving during the ride. With a peloton of NCC jerseys, should we really be surprised by the admiration of our fellow Zwifters? Henry earned the You’re Popular badge (10 Ride Ons in one ride).
We discussed the wildlife on the different routes in Zwift. Zinj mentioned a wolf, which caused me to ask the group if they have watched the Witcher on Netflix. I’m close to finishing the first season, but I had to look a lot of items up about the timeline. Tim really enjoyed the show, while Zinj has played the video game.
We all earned the Twilight Harbor route achievement, which doubled our XP points for the first lap. Melissa completed level 38 and earned her avatar the vintage leather shoes. Henry moved to level 15 and now has the Level 15 kit.
In our 60 minute ride, we covered approximately 21 miles with 537 feet of climbing.
