With the Tour de Zwift having concluded last week, we resumed our regular rotation of Monday races with a return to the flat and fast Downtown Dolphin course in Crit City. The NCC had seven riders in the B race, making up fully half the field, and we were well-represented at the front of the pack throughout the entire race. All seven of our riders hung with the front group for more than half the race. Around lap five, Melissa fell a second or two off the back, but then made a strong effort to get back on, and hung with the group for another lap or so before falling off and joining a couple of other riders in chase one. Meanwhile, Kevin was dropping burritos almost every lap, threatening to blow up the group, but we kept it together and got to the finish with six NCC riders in the lead group. I had been sitting on an aero helmet for the whole race, and dropped it early, about ten seconds before the hairpin, to build up a good head of steam and roll off the front. In a bigger race it probably wouldn’t have stuck, but with only about ten people in the mix, nobody was able to get by, and I hung on for the win. Kevin, Zinj, Henry, Dusty, and Charlie were all within a second or two, and all finished in the top ten.

In the C race, Michael and David had a considerably larger group, and one that was apparently filled with a bunch of higher-category riders, as they pushed a fast pace the whole way, and many of the top finishers got a DQ. Michael fell off the lead group with a couple laps to go, and eventually got caught from behind by David’s group, with Michael managing to stay ahead of David in the final sprint.
