Celebrating its twenty-second year of operation, the Northampton Cycling Club is a volunteer organization that is run by its members.

Crucial to the club is the Board of Directors. This group meets monthly to direct the club and lead many of the organizations committees. This dedicated group is composed of three officers (President, Treasurer, and Clerk) and up to nine at large members. In 2020, the Board handled the constantly changing riding landscape, including the need to cancel events, shifting competition and group rides to Zwift, and planning BikeFest: Solo. We also used 2020 to redesign the website and launch our new membership system with automatic renewal.

At the end of 2020, the terms of five members of the Board of Directors ended. On behalf of the entire club, I want to thank the following departing Board members for their service to the NCC:

  • Tim Cary (7 years, including terms as President, Treasurer, and technology lead)
  • John Coffey (3 years, including terms as Clerk and head ride leader)
  • Leila Everett (10 years, membership coordinator )
  • Bryant Johnson (5 years, designed many NCC kits)
  • Sam Verla (5 years, newsletter coordinator)

I know that all these departing Board members will be willing to assist the club in the future and many are continuing on with committee work.

In the Fall of 2020, the Board formed a search committee to identify and recruit NCC members to the Board of Directors. The nominating committee put forth a slate in early January, and after the election last week, we are very excited to welcome six new at large members to the Board:

  • Doug Breismeister
  • Stephen Hyde
  • Justine McCarthy
  • Jon Parrott
  • Jeremy Powers
  • Andy Towlen

I am humbled to begin my second term as President of the NCC. Existing Board member Roger Stawasz joins me on the Executive Committee as Treasurer. The remaining at large positions are filled by Michael Bello, Miles Chilson (reelected), and Al Donahue (reelected).

If you have an interest in volunteering for a committee or assisting with an event, please e-mail me. As a club we organize many events, including Massochistah, Tour of the Hilltowns, Mount Greylock Hillclimb TT, and BikeFest and need volunteers to help in a variety of aspects.

As we begin 2021, please be aware that the Board is monitoring state, federal, and USA Cycling guidelines. When it is permitted and safe, we will return to outdoor group rides and competition. In the meantime, please join one of our many rides on Zwift.
