After a two-week hiatus for the holidays, the NCC Zwift Fall Hill Climb/Time Trial returned today for its penultimate week of competition.

This week, the challenge was a two lap time trial of the Champs-Élysées. In total, that was 8.22 miles with an average gradient of 0% (224 feet of climbing).

To give a brief summary of the series rules, participants must use a time trial bike, which prevents drafting. Points are awarded based on the number of competitors and individuals’ overall placing. For example, if there are 19 riders, the person with the best time is awarded 19 points, second gets 18 points all the way down to the last rider, who gets 1 point. At the end of the Zwift series, the rider with the most points will be awarded the NCC Zwift Series title.

Participants may ride any time during the day or participate in the group ride version at 5:30 PM. In the group ride version, we typically warm up together before individually completing the time trial.

Next week, the finale is worth double points, plus an additional point for a Strava PR. As has been tradition, the final hill climb will be Alpe du Zwift, which is a replica of the Alpe d’Huez, the famous Tour de France climb. The climb has 21 hairpin turns covering 7.59 miles with an average gradient of 8.5 percent (3,398 feet of climbing) .

During the summer series, Jonathan O’Keeffe won the men’s title, while Melissa Warwick won the women’s title. With double points on the line, anyone could take the titles next week. Everyone is invited to join us for the finale. In addition, the Winter Hill Climb/Time Trial series will be starting in a few weeks.

Of the thirteen riders today, we had twelve participants in the group ride.

There were several PRs today: Dusty, Henry, Jeremy, Ari, and Dan.
