Great ride last night. Ideal weather. Good turnout of 12-15 strong riders. Things broke up and got painful on the climb out of Williamsburg. Regrouped in Ashfield, then on way to Conway the Amherst folks headed home. The climb out of Conway accelerated off the second step and broke the group up again for good. The pace was high all the way home. It was fun.

I was reading an article yesterday on Coach Bill Belichick’s philosophy regarding taking chances when passing the ball at the NE Patriots training camp that resonated with me w/ respect to cycling, check it:

“That’s part of what practice is for,” he said Wednesday, “to take risks, to push it, to see how far it can go. To see how much you can do. Sometimes, it’s going to come up a little bit short, but if it’s done in the right context then you learn from that and you realize, “This is how far I can go and I can’t gamble beyond this, but I can push it this point.’

“But if you never push it to that point, I don’t think you ever really know how far it can go.”

Thanks for the report Patrick. I’m away on vacation, but looking forward to hitting the hills again next week. Great quote.
