Until Jonathan O’ finds time to write up the ride and post his GPS map, here is my quick recap:
A large group left Northampton on the reverse Thursday night route to Conway. A brisk pace was set and held on every climb, but we kept regrouping until we stopped in Conway for refreshments. There we split into an A and B group and headed towards Shelburn Falls in light drizzle. We followed Partick’s excellent suggestion of taking a left on to Wilder Hill road, where we stopped at a spring to top off water bottles and examine the lighter bikes of the Peloton, then continued on to Ashfield Center for some more refreshments at the town store. There Ed split off and took rt 116 straight home to Amherst, and Dawn join the A from the B group and upped the tempo on the climbs, inflicting significant pain on those of us who tried to keep up with her. Mike lead us on beautiful back roads to the Thursday nigh out route, which we took back to Williamsburg at a spirited pace. A few of us from Amherst and Belchertown (Peter, Chris, Roberto and I) took rt 9 from Williamsburg to make our 1 pm curfew. I ended up with 65 miles total from Amherst at a pleasant 17.8 mi/hr average
